Solarpunk Drone Efficiency: How to Max Throughput

A well-tuned drone network triples farm and factory output. A poorly-tuned one barely beats hand-gathering. The difference is 4 small settings. This guide covers all of them.

Setting 1 — Use 2 Charging Pads per Drone

The single biggest efficiency gain. Place 2 charging pads within drone range. Set the primary and secondary charging targets in the drone UI. The drone auto-swaps when the primary fills. Result: ~40% throughput increase.

Setting 2 — Match the Job Timer to the Real Cycle

Each job has an internal timer. Setting it too short makes the drone re-check constantly (waste). Setting it too long makes the drone idle. The sweet spots:

JobOptimal Timer
Harvester drone5 seconds
Carrier drone60 seconds
Crafter drone15 seconds
Sorter drone30 seconds
Builder drone10 seconds

Setting 3 — Separate Input and Output Chests

A drone that drops items into the same chest it reads from creates an infinite loop. Always use 2 chests. Label them clearly: IN and OUT.

Setting 4 — Power the Charging Pads with the Main Grid

Solar-only charging pads go dark at night. Tie every charging pad into your main power grid with a heavy cable. A drone on a dead pad stops working silently — the #1 cause of "why is my farm stuck" reports.

Advanced: 4-Job Drone Stacks

A Tier-2 drone can run 2 active jobs + 1 passive job. The only legal combo for max efficiency is:

  1. Active 1: Harvester (5s timer).
  2. Active 2: (Leave empty — 2 active jobs tank throughput).
  3. Passive 1: Carrier (60s timer).
  4. Passive 2: Sorter (30s timer).

This combo produces ~120% the output of a single-job drone and is the highest-ROI drone configuration in the game.
