12 Solarpunk Building Tips & Tricks You Should Know
Building in Solarpunk feels clunky for the first 5 hours, then it clicks. These 12 tips are the click — they cover snapping, foundations, hidden blocks, and the QoL tricks veteran players use to build faster.

The 12 Tips
- Foundations snap on a 4×4 grid. Plan your footprint in multiples of 4. Anything else wastes building pieces.
- Press F5 to toggle the building grid. Makes 4×4 foundations snap perfectly even on uneven terrain.
- Hold Shift while placing to rotate a piece 45°. Useful for diagonal roofs and corner decorations.
- You can place foundations on the side of any solid block. Used for cliff-side bases — no terrain flattening needed.
- Right-click a placed block to copy its style. Then left-click to paste. Saves hours on big builds.
- Always leave a 1-block corridor on the north side. Future-you will want to add a power line. Retrofit costs 2x.
- Decorations do not block drones. Use them freely. They cost zero logic performance.
- Use the "scaffold" block to mark in-progress builds. It auto-removes when the surrounding structure is complete.
- Do not put your bed next to the entrance. Sleep through weather events to avoid stamina loss.
- Build your farm 2 blocks below the water source. Gravity-fed irrigation is free. Pumped is not.
- You can place a foundation underwater. Used for "underwater base" speedruns. The air gets stale after 2 in-game days.
- The "snap-to-center" toggle (F6) makes window placement trivial. On by default, but most players disable it by accident.
The 5 Hidden Block Types
These are blocks most players never find:
- Glass Floor. Visible from above and below. Used for sky bridges.
- Hollow Wall. A wall with a 1-block hole — used for window decoration.
- Half-Stair. Looks like a stair, only 0.5 blocks tall. Sits flush with foundations.
- Anchor Block. Invisible in survival, used to mark a building as "permanent" (no wind damage).
- Light Strip. A 1-block-tall light source, perfect for indoor lighting.

The 3 Tips That Save the Most Time
- Tip #5 — Right-click to copy block style. Cuts building time in half on large projects.
- Tip #6 — Always leave a 1-block north corridor. Saves a painful retrofit on every base.
- Tip #12 — Snap-to-center toggle. Most players accidentally disable this. Re-enable it.
